About Hazratganj :

Shop for trinkets and Lucknawi arts at Hazratganj, a significant tourist attraction and shopping area in the city’s heart. It is home to some old bazaars, shopping complexes, restaurants, hotels, theatres, and with the advent of time, offices. Nawab Nasiruddin Haider laid the foundation of the Ganj market in 1827 by introducing the China Bazaar and Kaptaan Bazaar. The area’s name was changed to Hazratganj after Nawab Amjad Ali Shah in 1842. Once the British took over the city after the First War of Independence in 1857, Hazratganj was remodelled after London’s ‘Queen Street’. Many old Mughal-style buildings were demolished and replaced by new European structures. The Ring Theatre in the complex served as the Ball Room and theatre for the British officers and was called the ‘Entertainment Centre’ back in the day. Some years later, it was converted into a special court for the hearing of the Kakori Conspiracy case. Between 1929 and 32, the building was renovated with Gothic architecture and a clock tower was constructed in the centre.
